Pottery Studio Membership in our workshop is great for new and experienced makers who want to practice at their own pace, beyond classroom hours, and for established hobbyists who would like to use the studio on flexible terms, and have a project in mind.
The studio is open regularly 4 days a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. We use 3 types of stoneware clay, and a range of dipping glazes is available for all members. Firings are carried out regularly by experienced studio staff, and our kiln turnaround is within 2 weeks for a regular piece of pottery.
There is access to tailored kiln firing service within the studio provision, and staff who handle work have years of experience. We support members development and making process where possible.
Members have a personal storage space (35 x 84 x 40 cm) and they can make use of common area storage within reason. Open access workshop is equipped for modelling, hand-building, throwing, and glazing. We won’t be able to accommodate slip casting.
The studio is a collective of makers, and everyone is practising side by side. There is no need to book one’s studio time, and we do not limit attendance hours.
Subscription fee: £223.90 pcm, with £36 joining fee to cover studio induction.
Materials and firings fee will be charged at £4.18+VAT p/kg of leather-hard pottery, and £5.48+VAT p/kg for bone dry work, and cover glazing and firing costs.
Access to the studio membership is open to those who did at least one 12-week term with People’s Pottery Class within the last 12 months, and are confident enough to practice independently.
Open Access Studio Membership is not intended for production potters.

Who can join the open access ceramics studio?
Open Access pottery studio membership is great for new and experienced makers who want to practice at their own pace, with access to a quality workshop environment that is beyond classes hours.
Our South London Pottery studio membership will also suit established makes and hobbyists who would like to use the studio on flexible terms, have a project in mind, however we are not be able to support production potters.
Do I need previous pottery experience?
Access to the studio membership is open to those who did at least one 12-week term with People’s Pottery Class within the last 12 months, and are confident enough to practice independently.
If you have a lot of experience, and want to be part of a collective studio, we may be able to reduce required class time to six weeks to make sure you are on a suitable level.
The studio is first of all a small collective of makers. Everyone is practising side by side, and our work is fired together. New members join when they are on a right level of experience, so they can fully participate in a collective process and enjoy their own practice.
What clay can I use?
Members have access to three types of stoneware clay at our workshop. We recycle all studio clay separately, to ensure consistent results, and for sustainability.
What about firings?
Costs of firings are not included in the pottery studio membership fee to accommodate for differences in every member’s ceramics practice.
Pottery firings are carried out regularly by experienced studio staff, and our kiln turnaround is within 2 weeks for a regular piece of pottery.
There is access to tailored kiln firing service within the studio provision, and staff who handle work have 10+ years of experience of working with kilns. If some of your practice requires special approach, we will be able to help.
Can I store my work at the studio?
Members have a personal storage space (35 x 84 x 40 cm) and they can make use of common area storage within reason.
What equipment is available?
Open access ceramics workshop is equipped for modelling, hand-building, throwing, and glazing. We won’t be able to accommodate slip casting. We have a range of equipment and machinery available to use by out pottery studio members. Our equipment inductions are run regularly, on every first Saturday of the month at 3pm.
What are the studio opening hours? Do I need to book?
There is no need to book one’s studio time once you become an open access studio member. We do not limit attendance hours if it is within our opening hours:
