People’s Pottery class is all about feeling well and making ceramics in a sociable and creative environment. These sessions are designed to be comfortable for all, and participants are encouraged to work at their own pace. It’s a good place to try out or improve all the basic techniques of ceramics making. All levels of experience are welcome.

At the adult People’s Pottery Class, beginners will be introduced to various methods of using clay to produce functional and artistic works. We will be exploring techniques like pinching, slab building, coiling, press-moulding, throwing and turning, slip decoration and glazing. Sessions will start with a demonstration of a technique and follow with plentiful making time.

If you have some previous experience in ceramics making, these classes will be a great opportunity to build upon your skills and learn more. You can work on more advanced projects and develop pieces that demand more time and consideration, and make use of a supportive making environment. We encourage students to investigate new ideas, techniques and the work of contemporary and historical makers.

We will make functional items such as bowls, pots, jugs and dishes as well as experimental sculptural works and tiles. Join us on this journey!

All materials and firings are included in the price.

We run three 12-week courses during the term time and a short 6-week term in summer.

If you are keen to continue your practice with us, check out our Open Access studio for more info.
