Open Access Membership
Open-access is a great space for novice makers who want to potter independently, or for established hobbyists who would like to use the studio on flexible terms.
The studio is open regularly 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with an experienced technician present during those days. 3 types of stoneware clay and various glazes are available to all members, firings are carried out regularly by studio staff.
Members can make use of a dedicated personal storage space and a common area at their convenience. Open access space is equipped for modelling, handbuilding, throwing, and glazing.
Subscription from those who have not been on the course will be cancelled, and induction fee retained by the studio. Please get in touch before signing up.
Personal storage for Open Access members will be: 35 x 84 x 40 cm
Subscription fee: £215.30pcm, with £34.7 joining fee to cover studio induction.
Materials fees will be charged at £4.02+VAT p/kg of leather-hard pottery, and covers glazing and firing costs.
Managing your membership: Membership fee will be charged monthly on the joining day. Membership can be cancelled though your account on the website or via email.
Clothing: Members are advised to provide their own protective clothing, however a few aprons will be available in the workshop.
Joining/ induction fee: The membership subscription includes an induction fee of £34.7. Induction including basic workshop processes and health and safety has to be done on the first day of using the workshop.
Bringing a friend: We are unfortunately unable to facilitate visits from friends, but we plan to make this possible in the nearest future.
Clays: we use 3 different types of stoneware clay, and would not be able to accommodate earthenware.
Glazes: if you want to bring your own glaze into the workshop, you will need to test it, and it can fired at the discretion of the technician in charge.
Cleaning: Open Access Members are expected to tidy the space they used for work after they finish for the day, and bring the tools they used to their storage locations. Personal items shall be placed back into Member’s storage together with their unfinished projects to avoid them being lost.
Membership Eligibility: Access to the studio subscription is open to those, who did at least one 12-week term with People’s Pottery Class within the last 12 months, or are confident enough to practice independently. It is a good idea to speak to your tutor before subscribing. Subscription from those who have not been on the course will have to be cancelled, and induction fee retained by the studio.
Please be aware that ceramics workshop environment can be dangerous for babies, children and pets, and we cannot accommodate their presence in the workshop.
